SUMMARY:Canoe Dig It? A mockumentary presented by filmmaker Sam Dunning
DESCRIPTION:The Winona Arts Center is proud to host Sam Dunning and his mockumentary film Canoe Dig It? on September 3rd at 7:00 PM. This comedic movie provides a glimpse into the world of Freestyle Canoeing\, following some of the country’s top canoeists as they duke it our for the title of “Top Paddler”. \nCanoe Dig It? is a mockumentary comedy about a fictional canoeing competition in Northern Maine for the nonfictional sport of “Freestyle Canoeing”\, a form of performative canoeing best described as “canoe dancing”. Competitors paddle out and spin\, dip\, and “dance” in circles in perfect synchronization with the music of their choice. \nThe film tracks a handful of quirky and curiously relatable competitors vying for the blue ribbon at the Moosehead Regional Finals. We follow our cadre of diverse canoeists’- a cutthroat perfectionist\, a backwoods natural\, an aging underdog\, a squabbling couple of summer camp owners\, and a hard rocking bartender- as they prepare for the big stage (lake)\, seeing glimpses into their personal lives\, their eclectic preparation methods\, and learning what it takes to make it to the top of the Freestyling world. \nWhat does it take to bring home the “Top Paddler” ribbon? Athleticism? Technique? Core Strength? Song choice? DESCRIPTION:Tickets: $15 in Advance at Music Mart\, 115 East 3rd Street\, Winona\, $17.86 on Eventbrite or $20.00 at the door of the Winona Arts Center (228 E 5th Street) on October 17. \nTibetan bowls and gongs produce varying sounds that invite deep relaxation and meditation. \nJoin Ben Rohde and Joan Filla as they share their passion and talent for immersive sound experiences. Tibetan bowls and gongs produce varying sounds that invite deep relaxation\, enhancing the ability to meditate and enter expanded states of consciousness. The sounds and vibrations facilitate a sense of well-being and inner harmony. \nCome prepared to be at ease\, wearing comfortable clothing\, and bring your cushion\, yoga mat\, blanket\, pillow\, or whatever provides comfort. Chairs will also be available. A Q&A session\, a demonstration\, and an opportunity to play the bowls and gongs will be offered at the end of the session. \nJoan Filla is a physician who was introduced to Tibetan singing bowls while recovering from long standing trauma. Singing bowls and meditation became an integral part of her journey and she hopes to share these powerful tools with others. \nBen Rohde brings his lifelong passion for rhythm and music to the world of sound healing\, specializing in the profound vibrations of gongs. As an experienced percussionist and drummer\, he intuitively guides others toward deep relaxation and stress relief through immersive sound experiences.
